Aim & worflow

In addition to text you can add different media to your blog posts. Media like images and video can often be included in your post via a wizard that's part of the blog service. There are also millions of interesting and useful web applications (YouTube, Flickr and many, many more) available which you can embed in your blog. In this tutorial both the wizards (of Blogger and WordPress) for adding multimedia will be explained as well as a universal way to include almost any kind of media using web apps and a simple code snippet.

Code snippet to add multimedia

...

  • create post
  • go to html view
  • select web app
  • upload or search for item
  • select embed option
  • customize embed code using wizard (if available)
  • copy embed code
  • paste embed code
  • customize code manually (optionally)
  • publish post

Wizards to add multimedia

[in general]

Blogger

For embedding images or videos in your post you can use a wizard as an alternative to the code snippet procedure. To start one of the wizards click on the image or video icon on the right in the blog editing tools:

note: Images uploaded with the image wizard are automatically added to a Picasa Web album with the name of your blog. Picasa Web uses the same Google account as you use for Blogger.

For more detailed instructions see embedding images and embedding videos.

WordPress

For nearly every type of multimedia you can use the general instructions provided in this tutorial to add it to your blog. In addition WordPress offers a wizard to include different kinds of multimedia (images, audio, video and documents) directly. To start the wizard click on the icons next to 'Upload/Insert' in the blog editing tools: File:wordpress_post_editing_tools.png

For a more detailed instruction view the video tutorial:

You do not have the Flash plugin installed, which means you are missing out on great interactive content. Download Flash.

note: With a basic (free) WordPress account you currently have 3GB of storage space, which should be plenty. Alternatively store your media elsewhere and link to it by entering the 'url' in the wizard or using the general instructions provided in this tutorial.
